Whether you are brand new to Scouting and our annual popcorn sale, or you are a seasoned popcorn selling pro, these resources will help answer questions, doubts, or concerns. Every year the popcorn sale is a vital component in the ability for our Pack to serve our SFB Scouts.
You are not selling popcorn - you are selling Scouting! You are asking customers to give a donation to his/her local Scouts. Remember that our Scouts receive 35% of sales. Every purchase supports your Cub Scout(s)! When you share your Scouting story, people want to support your fundraiser.
People also buy popcorn when you let them know HOW your Scout is going to use the money. This year our goal is to raise enough money so that Scouts can learn all about submarines and stay overnight on the WW II USS Cobia Submarine. A portion of our funds will also go toward our Service Project: making care packages for our service members who are deployed around the world.
GOAL SETTING - When your Scout sets his or her own goal, they are more likely to achieve it. And even if they do not, they will likely sell more if they are striving to reach a goal they set. Have your Scout choose a prize from the Keller Marketing catalog to set their goal.
PERSUASION - Some think the Scout program is a but expensive, but we know we aren't just selling popcorn - we are selling Cub Scouting. Make this the chance for your Scout to share their Scouting story with others and ask them to help fund his/her next adventure.
HANDLING REJECTION - Yes, your Scout will be turned down sometimes. They will ask and be told "no" and they will be ignored at a Show & Sell table. They will practice handling rejection gracefully, which is a great skill to learn at any age.
MATH - Where to start? The ways your Scout can practice math during the popcorn sale are endless: add up order totals, or units sold, or even calculate how much more they need to sell to make it to their goal.
